Funding Opportunities
The Fetzer Institute Kenneth A. Klivington Fellowship in Biodynamics Each year, the Fetzer Institute offers a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship in theoretical bioelectromagnetics. The purpose of the fellowship is to strengthen the theoretical understanding of the interactions between weak electromagnetic fields and biological systems. Particular emphasis is placed on the application of principles of nonlinear dynamics to the proposed research. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline. Candidates make arrangements to work in the laboratory of a senior scientist who conducts experimental research (in order to foster collaboration between theoreticians and experimental scientists). The fellowship provides a salary commensurate with the candidate's experience and includes an allowance for research expenses and travel. The Fetzer Institute does not provide indirect costs to the host institution. Click here to learn more about the Biodynamics Program and recipients of the Kenneth A. Klivington Fellowship in Biodynamics. The Fetzer Institute posts the full application for this award each December.
Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships
Private
Funding Partnerships Key to Research for a Cure "To generate cures for cancer and other catastrophic diseases, a new suburban Chicago foundation plans to raise funds for innovative research by forging partnerships between private donors and innovative researchers. The Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships, a 501 (c)(3) foundation, will offer donors an opportunity to target their funding to specific, groundbreaking research projects with creative researchers. [...] By applying business principles to the research process, the foundation has established a new method of moving promising research forward through the concept of Inspired Ventures. Modeled after the limited partnership and venture capital business models, Inspired Ventures are comprised of dedicated donors, creative research investigators, and the Partnerships contribution and/or ongoing management. Inspired Ventures are developed as follows:
According to the Goldmans, the ultimate goal is to develop an Inspired Venture portfolio that will include visionary programs, unique treatments, and breakthrough research from around the country and the world. [...]In October 2001, the Partnerships will become the largest sponsor of Comprehensive Cancer Care 2001, which is also funded by the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the University of Texas-Houston Medical School. This integrative medicine conference is spearheaded by James Gordon, MD, chair of the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy and founder of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine. The conference will feature 80 leading practitioners who will offer three days of workshops for over 2,000 cancer specialists and patients."

Clinical and Experimental Research on Qigong
Available through the Qigong Institute
Many of you have
expressed interest in an updated version of the Computerized Qigong
Database. I am happy to report that after many months of volunteer
labor at the non-profit Qigong Institute, the Computerized Qigong
Database has been updated to V 6.0. We have added about 25% more
citations than the previous V 5.0, so now you can search 2050
references in English from this collection of clinical and
experimental research studies on Qigong. The
Computerized Qigong Database is provided on a CD suitable for
Macintosh and Windows compatible computers.
Of substantial
importance now is the growing Western medical interest in Eastern
studies, and the Qigong Database has been designed specifically to
serve as your most valuable tool to pursue your field of
interest.
The Qigong Database is a
collection of abstracts from about 20 international conferences and
more than 100 scientific journals. Using any key word(s), you
can cross reference the entire collection and learn how Qigong has
been applied to treat chronic conditions such as hypertension,
aging, asthma and cardiovascular disease. Understanding which
research studies have been completed or are still in progress will
be simple to determine.
Since the 1980's Chinese
scientists have carried out extensive clinical and experimental
research on many medical applications of Qigong. As a result,
the health benefits of Qigong are well documented. Exercises
performed by the 'average person' as well as Qi emitted by Qigong
Masters while treating their patients are clearly demonstrated in
the Qigong Database. Citations in the Database encompass the period
from 1986 to 2002.
The Qigong Database has
been used as source material for six books, four dissertations and
numerous research studies. Its feedback from medical practitioners,
scientists and the public has been overwhelmingly supportive. This
collection of scientific research abstracts in English is too large
and significant to ignore.
Complete details about the Computerized
Qigong Database and an order form can be viewed and downloaded from the web site
of the Qigong Institute http://www.qigonginstitute.org
For your convenience you may pay by credit card. A special discount is available for those who purchased V. 5.0.
Thank you for your interest in the health
benefits of Qigong and for your support of the Qigong Institute.
Sincerely,
Kenneth M. Sancier, PhD
