2. Join the Doctor-Healer Network
Physicians are invited to join a
group of doctors who are exploring the uses of healing in medical practice.
Healing (as in Therapeutic Touch, Reiki,
etc.) can help with many problems for which conventional medicine can as yet
provide only limited relief. People with arthritis, asthma, diabetes,
hypertension, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), multiple sclerosis, cancer,
and other problems may be helped. Pain, stress and other symptoms may be
relieved. Patients and doctors have numerous reports of the helpfulness and
efficacy of healing.
Research confirms healing is effective well beyond
a placebo effect. There are over 200 controlled studies
demonstrating that healing can influence water, enzymes, cells in laboratory
cultures, yeasts, bacteria, plants, animals, and humans. (Benor, D. Healing
Research: Volume I, in press.)
Healing is well accepted by doctors in England, where
healers work in doctors’ offices, and some are paid under the National
Health Service. Many more doctors are referring patients to healers at the
healers' clinics. Some doctors are developing their own healing gifts and
may get Postgraduate Education Allowance (equivalent to CME) credits for
this by attending approved workshops. Healers work regularly at hospital
pain, cancer and cardiac rehabilitation centers.
In the UK Doctor-Healer Network (DHN), founded
in 1988 by Daniel Benor, MD, there are healers, doctors,
nurses, other health care professionals, clergy, and
complementary/alternative therapists who meet every 3-4 months to discuss
patients (often those who are treated by doctor-healer pairs), as well as
theoretical and personal questions and demonstrations of healing methods.
This provides a forum and resource for sharing information and progress in
integrating healing with conventional medicine.
The DHN-NA will include doctors who are
practicing healing themselves, working in conjunction with healers, or are
interested in learning more about healing and research in healing. In
periodic regional seminars and an email professional group we willl explore
integrating healing with conventional medical care.
This group is for doctors who are already using healing
in their practice. The group had its first meeting in August 2000.
Facilitator: Daniel J. Benor, M.D. is
a wholistic psychiatrist. He practices psychotherapy, including elements
from meditation, imagery and relaxation, psychoneuroimmunology, dream
analysis, healing, EMDR Tapas Acupressure Technique, Emotional Freedom
Techniques, Matrix Therapy, intuitive and spiritual awareness, transactional
analysis, gestalt therapy, hypnotherapy, and other approaches. Dr. Benor has
taught elements from these methods internationally for 15 years to people
involved in wholistic, intuitive, and spiritual approaches to caring, health
and personal development. He is the founder of The DHN in England and editor
of its Newsletter. After 10 years in England he returned to work in
Philadelphia and in Medford, New Jersey. Dr. Benor is the author of Healing
Research, Volumes I-IV and many articles on wholistic healing and spiritual
awareness. He appears internationally on radio and TV. He is a Founding
Diplomate of the American Board of Holistic Medicine and on the advisory
boards of the journals, Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine,
Subtle Energies (ISSSEEM), Frontier Sciences, on the Board of
Directors of ISSSEEM, and the Advisory Council of the Association for
Comprehensive Energy Psychotherapy (ACEP).
